Fluorescent's Radio edit of 'Unfamiliar' taken from the album 'Winter'.

2009 brings Fluorescent’s latest single; a revamped version of ‘Unfamiliar’, lifted from the ‘Winter’ album. Described by Mess & Noise as;
“One of the better moments on Fluorescent’s debut album Winter, ‘Unfamiliar’ lopes along with Cure-esque guitars and cheesy synths... fondness for this era can also be found in the laconic vocals of Simon Kapitolina, who delivers the somewhat bizarre refrain, “Streets are unfamiliar, when they’re gonna kill ya”, with utter seriousness.”

The single release also includes a dub version, along with ‘Collapse’, a nihilistic guitar epic - also lifted from Winter. ‘Unfamiliar’ see’s Fluorescent’s first venture in to music video; a collaborative project produced by Fabian Kong, together with Plot Films, Andrew McLeod and a cast of local dancers - if Jeffery Smart had a dance troupe at his disposal, this may be the result; surreal and urban, yet camp.

"You see, if you're going to do an '80s throwback, instead of subscribing to some falsified chintzy Barbie & the Rockers ideal, why not do what Fluorescent do and scare the Supre kids by pursuing the darker edges of melody, the punchier refrains and the stadium pop impact of the whole array of synthesisers playing the archest riffs this side of gary Numan's on-hold music? This is delish." Clem Bastow, InPress.
